Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax preparation services to individuals and families who earn up to $65,000 annually. Get help filing your taxes and receive immediate cash to supplement living expenses, pay off debt, or save for the future.
Eligibility for Free Tax Filing
You qualify for free tax preparation if:
- You earn up to $65,000 per year
- If married filing jointly, both spouses must be present at the time of drop-off
Services Provided
- Tax preparation for tax years 2019–2024
- Preparation of 1040X Amended Tax Returns (regardless of where they were originally filed)
- Free W-7 application assistance for obtaining an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
What to Bring
Make sure to bring the following documents:
- Government-issued photo ID (for you and your spouse, if married)
- Social Security cards or ITIN documents for yourself, your spouse, and any dependents
- Birth dates for yourself, spouse, and dependents
- A copy of your prior year’s tax return
- All Forms W-2 and 1099
- Forms 1095-A, B, or C (Affordable Care Act statements)
- Documentation of other income
- Proof of deductions and credits (including charitable contributions)
- Daycare provider’s total payment and their tax ID number
- Bank account and routing number for direct deposit
- For prior year returns, bring IRS income transcripts
